SHIPPENSBURG — Cumberland Valley Rail Trail Council will cut a ribbon Friday, Oct. 4, to commemorate its partnership within the 9/11 National Memorial Trail, which connects Shanksville, Pa.; Washington, D.C.; and New York City. A pavilion can be found on the only completed, off-road portion of the system in the Cumberland Valley. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the Shippensburg Station trailhead, 51 E. Fort St., Shippensburg. Jane Sheffield from the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance is among the list of speakers for the event.

YORK – WellSpan Health has been approved for a nearly $1 million federal funding award for research to help improve antibiotic prescribing for children with acute respiratory tract infections in all of its urgent care and pediatric practices, as well as select primary care practices across the central Pennsylvania. Assuring appropriate use of antibiotics, which are commonly prescribed for children, can help prevent the growing problem of drug-resistant infections and avoid adverse side effects, an effort that aligns with the ongoing work of WellSpan’s Spotlight on Children’s Health initiative. Organizers of the StopTransource Franklin County group will provide a review and update of the Transource Independence Energy Connection Project on Monday, Oct. 7, and will bring in a guest speaker who has battled similar projects. The 6 p.m. meeting will be at the New Franklin Community Center, 2500 New Franklin Rd., in Building #2. CHAMBERSBURG – Some Chambersburg Borough residents will vote in new precincts in the November elections due to reapportionment based on census data, while others are changing polling locations, Franklin County officials announced. Voters who are moved to other districts will receive a new voter registration card in the mail, as well as a notice notifying them of their new polling location.
