Franklin United Way recognizes community members, elects officers at annual meeting

CHAMBERSBURG – Doug Tengler and Little Daisy’s Closet were the key award recipients at the United Way of Franklin County’s annual meeting this week at Franklin County Visitors Bureau. The new board also was installed, along with officers.

“Today, we celebrate the spirit of generosity, collaboration, and dedication that makes Franklin County a better place to live for all,” said Amy Hicks, executive director of United Way of Franklin County. 

Key Recognitions Included:

  • Cynthia Hawbaker Memorial Award Recognized Doug Tengler for his dedication to service through Waynesboro Memorial YMCA. Tengler has been instrumental in fostering a new collaboration to bring VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) services provided through United Way of Franklin County to the YMCA on a weekly basis. In addition, Tengler has provided outstanding volunteer assistance to the YMCA’s swimming program, as well as United We Read, a summer reading collaboration between both organizations.
  • United Way of Franklin County’s Non-Profit of the Year Presented to Little Daisy’s Closet for outstanding service to community through their ministry which provides clothing, food, household items and other support services to people in need throughout Franklin County. Little Daisy’s Closet helped over 7500 individuals in 2025. The organization has grown from a small garage outreach, to a storefront with outreach and events that connect and support people weekly, throughout the year.

The event also formalized nominations for new board members and executive officers.

Joining the board of directors for United Way of Franklin County are: Ginger Everhart from WellSpan Health, Julia Kint from Summit Endowment, Josh Curry from Franklin County Veteran’s Affairs and John Nogle from Complete Document Solutions.

Officers of the board of directors for 2026 are Karla Tellez of Patriot Federal Credit Union, president; Cody Hill of Middletown Valley Bank, vice president; Tiffany Frederick M&T and Wilmington Advisors @ M&T, treasurer; David Mackley of Franklin County Area Development Corporation as secretary; and Robin Harmon of Franklin County government, immediate past president.
