If you want to know one really good reason to not bring your kids to professional sports events, watch the replay of Sunday’s all-out bench-clearing brawl between the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners. Have I watched it? No. I didn’t have to. I already know the essence of what transpired, like it has on numerous other occasions. In an interview years ago, Cal Ripken Jr. said his consecutive games played streak almost ended because of a brouhaha against the, eh, hum, Mariners back in, I believe, 1996. Luckily for the modern-day Iron Man, Ripken didn’t get hurt and went…

WAYNESBORO – It was almost too easy for American Legion. The team that had to win a playoff game last Friday to qualify for the Waynesboro Youth League Major Division best-of-three championship series against top-seeded Waynesboro Construction rolled to a 10-0 victory in a game shortened to four innings due to the 10-run rule. American Legion, playing as the visiting team Monday evening in a game played on the Clayton Avenue south field, scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a commanding lead. “My focus for tonight’s game was, I thought if…

WAYNESBORO – Greencastle Post 373 brought the bats and starting pitcher Caiden Smith kept Waynesboro Post 15 from keeping pace in Saturday’s Franklin County American Legion League game at Robinson Field. Greencastle scored eight runs in the top of the first inning, more than it needed en route to a 9-1 victory. “Right now it’s just the bats,” said Waynesboro manager Dan McCleaf, whose team lost 11-1 last week at Chambersburg. “The bats aren’t clicking. The timing is off, with guys missing games and not getting enough reps in there. “I’m hoping next week we’ve got games Monday, Tuesday and…

This past Saturday, Mainstreet Waynesboro, Inc. and Appalachian Golden Classics Car Club coordinated a car and truck show that was, no doubt, a memorable event. How could it not be? Cars on display dated back to 1923. Owners proudly displayed their “toys” to passersby and told of how they take care of them in order to keep them in mint condition. According to organizers, this year’s event…

WAYNESBORO – Sequestered ever-so slightly from the noise of passing cars is the gem of Waynesboro – Renfrew Park. When you arrive at the bridge traversing the East Branch of the Antietam Creek, if you look right, you see the bridge crossing the same creek along Route 16 (Buchanan Trail). If you look left, you see trees, rocks and water. Take a look to your left and you see a sight seen hundreds of years ago. Take a look to your right and you see modernization – paved streets and brick buildings of a modern age. If truth is beaty…
