5 things to do this weekend

Swifties, get ready to shake it off in style. Fans of Taylor Swift will flock to the Washington County Playhouse in Hagerstown, Maryland, on Friday, Aug. 29, at 6 p.m. for “Shake It Off – A Tribute To The Music of Taylor Swift.” The show, featuring the pop icon’s greatest hits, brings singers and dancers who channel Swift’s electrifying energy to celebrate the end of her ERAS tour. With dinner, dessert, and a cash bar included, tickets range from $57 to $67, plus a $3 order fee. Be advised: the performance includes mature themes and lyrics. For details, call 301-739-7469 or visit washingtoncountyplayhouse.com.

With rhythms as vibrant as a summer sunset, the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro’s Destination ARTS! hosts Jammin’ in the Park, a music and arts festival, on Sunday, August 31, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Main Street Park. Seven local bands, including Clay Band, BBD Trio, and Kin Selection, will rock two stages with an eclectic mix of rock, blues, country, folk, bluegrass, and pop. This family-friendly fundraiser, sponsored by Waynesboro Construction and F&M Trust, offers free kids’ activities, a 50/50 drawing, and food from C&G Jerk Chicken, Gerber Burger, and Antietam Dairy, plus craft beer from Rough Edges Brewing for those over 21. Admission is $15, free for children 12 and under, with tickets available at artsalliancegw.org or cash-only at the gate.

Holy harmonies will soar in Shippensburg, as the Pennsylvania Gospel Festival brings top-tier talent to the stage from August 29 to August 31. Featuring powerhouses like The Booth Brothers, Legacy Five, The Isaacs, and comedian Tim Lovelace, the three-day, four-session event at Shippensburg’s Luhrs Performing Arts Center promises soul-stirring music and laughter. Zane and Donna King will lead worship throughout. Tickets for individual sessions or the full event are available online.

Boonsboro’s got a recipe for fun that’s too tasty to resist! On Sunday, Aug. 31, from noon to 6 p.m., Shafer Park at 37 Park Drive, Boonsboro, Maryland, will transform into a culinary carnival for the Boonsboro Food Truck Festival. Attendees can savor dishes from 20 diverse food trucks, groove to live music on two stages, and sip craft beverages in an expanded garden, all while a corn-hole tournament and a Kids Zone with free activities keep the energy high. This community feast, detailed on its Facebook event page, promises a flavorful celebration of food and fun for all ages.

In a town where corn is king and crafts reign supreme, Shippensburg will host its 44th annual Corn Festival on Aug. 30, drawing crowds to celebrate local artistry and flavors with more than 250 vendors offering everything from hand-poured soy candles and goat milk soaps to freeze-dried sweets and Pennsylvania wines. The free, family-friendly event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds, featuring live entertainment and a cornucopia of handmade goods from artisans like Carolyn Albright’s Pennsylvania Soy Candle and Jacob Beiler’s Conformed Metals LLC, all to foster community spirit and support regional creators.
