College Corner: Waynesboro grads helped fuel World Series runs for Mont Alto in baseball, softball

Dylan Morgan, PSU Mont Alto Baseball

If the Penn State Board of Trustees’ recent decision to close the PSU Mont Alto campus goes through in 2027 as planned, it would be a shame for many reasons, one of which would be the loss of a solid athletics program stocked primarily with local talent.

Mont Alto shined bright as ever on the field this spring, as the Lions advanced to the USACC Small College World Series in both baseball and softball. The squads got the job done using players from all over the Local.News1.org coverage area, including Waynesboro, our spotlight school for College Corner this month.

Mont Alto’s baseball team, which surged to a runner-up finish at the World Series, featured two former Tribe players in Dylan Morgan and Garrett Rosenberry, while Trysta Bricker got to compete in the postseason for the Lions’ softball team.

Morgan, Rosenberry, and Bricker are three of 23 former Waynesboro standouts we counted on the college playing field this spring. We’ll take a closer look at the exploits of these athletes this month, before shifting to gears to recap the college efforts of former Greencastle-Antrim and Chambersburg athletes in the months to come.

Are we missing any athletes? Additions for College Corner can be sent to Andy Sandrik via email at [email protected].

Morgan’s best game of the season came on April 25, when he went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI in a 15-4 win over PSU Scranton. He played a crucial role in the postseason, as he scored the game-tying run in a come-from-behind 11-9 win over PSU Du Bois on May 15. The victory pushed the Lions to the USCAA title game, where they fell 8-3 to Salem University.
