DILLSBURG, Pa. – The Mid-Penn Colonial high school golf season hit the home stretch on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and there is a two-team race to the finish.
Northern York all but mastered its home course of Range End, shooting a collective 310 to win the day. It wasn’t easy. Gettysburg was right on the Polar Bears’ heels all day and finished with a 311.
The second-place finish didn’t cost Gettysburg its first-place status, as the Warriors are an impressive 22-3, while the Polar Bears are 20-5.
The next and final division match is slated for Sept. 8 at Chambersburg Country Club with golfers teeing off at 2 p.m. with a shotgun start.
Greencastle-Antrim is the only other team in the division with a winning record. The Blue Devils placed fourth and are currently 14-11 and in third place.
Chambersburg shot 315 to place third, while Shippensburg carded a 325 to finish fifth. Waynesboro was last but finished with a decent score of 328. It might have been better on another day, but it seemed like every team in the league had a good day on the par-71, 5,920-yard course.
The weather was hot and sunny with temperatures in the 90s. Gettysburg’s Parker Tokar and Ryan Cunningham had the hot clubs. Tokar had the best individual score (72), and Cunningham was one stroke behind.
Northern made up for that with three golfers in the top eight, led by Trent Bankert with 74. Teammates Garrett Mainhart and Cole Syvertson shot 76 and 77, respectively.
Greencastle-Antrim’s Jex McDowell finished in a two-way tie for fourth place with a 75. Camden Eby carded a 78 while Jackson Sobol had a 79 and Bryce Davidson finished with an 80.
Caiden Shacreaw led Waynesboro with a 78. Rylan Nichols was next with 82, followed by Landon Crable with 83 and Abby Byers with 85.
Chambersburg was paced by Mason Lehman (76). The Trojans’ Kole Peiffer was close behind with 78, and Talan Smith finished with 80. Joel Jennings shot 81.
