ANTRIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A vehicle crash that ended in a creek left at least one person dead Thursday afternoon and forced the closure of a busy Franklin County roadway, according to officials.
PennDOT spokespersons said emergency crews were dispatched around 1 p.m. to a report of a car that had crashed into Conococheague Creek in Antrim Township. Details about how the vehicle entered the water were not immediately available.
Authorities confirmed the crash was fatal but have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
The incident prompted the closure of Route 16 west of Greencastle in both directions between Hill Road and Grant Shook Road. Traffic was being diverted as crews worked at the scene.
Emergency responders remained on-site Thursday afternoon, and officials urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
