With March Madness right around the corner, it’s hard to not get excited about the last remaining undefeated men’s basketball team in NCAA Division I: The Miami University Bobcats.
The sky seems to be the limit for Miami, a squad that’s 28-0 and ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press national rankings. At the center of it all has been Chambersburg native Brant Byers, who played for Scotland Campus in high school.
Byers has started in all but one game for the Bobcats, and leads the team in both scoring and 3-point field goals.
In College Corner this month, we’ll take a closer look at the exploits of Byers and other college athletes with connections to Chambersburg. In all we’ve counted 95 athletes, mostly former Trojans, competing at the college level. This list includes Pittsburgh indoor track standout Camy Kiser, who is eager to make an impression at this weekend’s conference championship meet, and Luke Nichter, a senior starter for the Drexel wrestling squad. We’ll also tie up some loose ends from the fall sports season, and provide updates on spring sports, which have recently kicked off.
In the months to come, College Corner will shift focus to Waynesboro and Greencastle-Antrim, before circling back to Chambersburg. Are we missing anybody? Additions for College Corner can be sent to Andy Sandrik via email at [email protected].
