WAYNESBORO – The new assistant zoning officer and planner for Washington Township is literally hitting the ground running.
Twenty-year-old Keller Moore of Waynesboro said he is learning as much as he can about the township, both in the office and out in the field. “I’m doing whatever I can to help things run smoothly,” said Moore, a 2023 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. Moore has been working alongside Chad Reichard since Oct. 1. Reichard, whose last day is Nov. 22, is leaving the post to serve as state representative for the 90th district, succeeding Paul Schemel.
“I’m highly impressed with Keller’s knowledge and ability. He’s a quick study and is picking up his duties very quickly,” Reichard said.
“My work varies from day to day. When I’m in the office, I get plans ready for meetings or work on permits.” Travel in the township may include a random drive around or inspecting properties for possible code violations, noted Moore, son of Andy and Christy Moore of Waynesboro.
“The main focus of my job is, when new plans are submitted for new developments or houses, we review them, send them to the (Franklin) county, Washington Township Municipal Authority and the township engineers for review. When we get the information back, we present it to the planning commission, and if approved, the plans move on the board of supervisors.”
Moore’s other duties involve issuing permits for new houses, sheds or driveways and similar projects to ensure that applicants adhere to township regulations before they are submitted to Commonwealth Code Inspection Services, a third-party contractor.
Moore also is getting to know the residents of the township as he visits properties to determine whether the permit process has been followed or to investigate complaints.
“Before I came in for the interview, I read through and studied the township code and municipalities planning code. I knew what I was getting into,” he added. “It’s a lot to learn.”
Moore, whose previous employment included landscaping and customer service, said he enjoys playing golf and watching professional football when he’s not working.
