Franklin Commissioners to consider $139,000 grant for archive preservation

CHAMBERSBURG – Franklin County Commissioners will consider approval of a $138,908 grant application by Franklin County Archives for a new preservation project when it meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Room 824 of the County Administration Building, 272 N. Second St.

Commission meetings are open to the public, and a citizen comment period is included.

The new archive grant will cover an arrangement, description and preservation project for the Atherton Collection of historical surveys dated 1750-1950. The funds would come from the National Historical Publications & Records Commission through the National Archives and Records Administration.

The Franklin County Archives offices are at 340 N. Second St. The department is dedicated to safeguarding and preserving Franklin County’s history and heritage as well as providing the public with access to the documents and records pertaining to the history, administration and operation of the county.       

The Archives’ Research Room is open to serve the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday
