CHAMBERSBURG – Hundreds of volunteers fanned out across Franklin County on Friday, Nov. 1, for the annual Day of Caring event organized by the United Way of Franklin County.
The day-long initiative saw community members tackle a variety of service projects at local nonprofits and organizations, addressing critical needs and fostering a spirit of civic engagement.
Volunteers from businesses, schools and community groups participated in projects ranging from outdoor cleanup to storage organization and winter preparations at various sites throughout the county.
At Buds of Promise, a team from Children’s Aid Society Southern Pennsylvania District conducted outdoor cleanup efforts. Meanwhile, Citi employees organized storage areas at Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
Specialty Granules LLC volunteers planted native trees and shrubs at Solomon’s United Church of Christ, contributing to local environmental conservation efforts.
The Conococheague Institute benefited from trail maintenance, winter garden preparation and brick relaying work carried out by teams from Ventura Foods and Middletown Valley Bank. Ventura Foods also served as the event’s primary sponsor.
At Peckin’ Thyme Farms Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, volunteers from Target Distribution and Specialty Granules LLC focused on winter preparation tasks. Patriot Federal Credit Union employees contributed their time to a storage room makeover at Camp Penn.
The Day of Caring, which has become a cherished tradition in Franklin County, not only addresses immediate needs but also strengthens community bonds and raises awareness about local nonprofit organizations.
Officials of the United Way of Franklin County expressed gratitude to all participants and sponsors, emphasizing the event’s role in fostering a culture of giving and community support that extends throughout the year.
