CHAMBERSBURG – The Chambersburg Area School District has introduced a program aimed at fostering community involvement and student success. Launched this year, CMS CARES (Community, Achievement, Readiness, Enrichment and Success) seeks to engage students in meaningful community activities while providing academic support and enrichment opportunities.

The program’s inaugural CARES Day, held in September, saw students participating in a variety of activities designed to benefit both the school and the wider community. Students took part in beautifying the school grounds, setting up a new hydroponics system and writing cards and letters to senior citizens. Additionally, plans were made for students to read to elementary school children, further extending the program’s reach across different age groups.

CMS CARES goes beyond community service, offering students access to academic support and tutoring services, school officials noted. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance student achievement while instilling a sense of civic responsibility.

The initiative has been met with enthusiasm from both students and staff, school officials said. With the success of the first CARES Day, anticipation is building for the next event scheduled for October. As the program continues to develop, it is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the bond between the school district and the community, while providing students with valuable experiences that contribute to their personal and academic growth.
