HAGERSTOWN – Four videos featuring a selection of local manufacturers and their products are being released by the Washington County Department of Business and Economic Development in honor of Manufacturing Month. The month is planned to recognize the vital role of the area’s manufacturing sector.

The four videos feature Conagra Brands, Fives Landis Corp., Hub Labels, Inc. and IKO – Northeast, Inc. These videos aim to showcase modern manufacturing in hopes of motivating the next generation of skilled workers. A video will be unveiled each Friday. The first was on Oct. 4, with others to follow on Oct. 11, 18 and 25. All four videos will be released on Oct. 31 to close out the celebration.

One video will be featured each week on Washington County’s Facebook page at https://fb.watch/v4MmeTeQOZ/

Forged for Thought: Brothers Samuel and Daniel Hughes are believed to be the first manufacturers in Washington County, according to the Washington County Historical Trust, dating back to 1766.  They operated a forge to heat and shape pigs of iron, producing arms for both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, including tacks and nails at their Antietam Forge.  Additionally, Daniel Hughes went on the become one of the first Washington County commissioners after the war.
