CHAMBERSBURG – Get ready for Halloween. Have some spooky fun and win a little cash this Halloween season as the Franklin County Visitors Bureau launches its first Scary Mini Movie contest. First prize is $250, and two honorable mentions of $100 will be awarded.

Entries must:

  • Be original works.
  • Be at least 90-seconds and no more than 5 ½ minutes with introduction and credits.
  • Include a scream
  • Have the phrase: But, there is one thing….

For participants who are seeking a contest prompt:

Franklin County is home to trails of history, arts, recreation,

beauty, fresh foods and the warm hospitality of communities like

Chambersburg, Greencastle, Mercersburg, Shippensburg and Waynesboro.

But, there is one thing….

The prompt is provided simply as a starting point or inspiration for story lines, characters, scenes and actions. Except for “but, there is one thing,” no other words of the prompt need to be included in the scary mini movie.

Videos can be funny and scary or simply scary. They can use animation or actors. Think about what is scary, creepy or bone-chilling. Is it clowns, spiders, rats, creaking floors, flashing lights or a sudden burst of chilling air? Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, storytelling and production value.

To get started, access Eventbrite here to receive a digital registration form and upload information. No entry fee is required. Contestants should just sign up and make a scary mini movie.

Entries must be submitted to Franklin County Visitors Bureau by Monday, Oct. 21. Videos will be shared in the Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 episodes of FCVB-TV. Winners will be announced during the Oct. 30 episode of FCVB-TV.
