HAGERSTOWN – The Washington County Department of Water Quality has lifted the boil water notice that affected residents in the Fort Ritchie section of the Highfield water system. This decision follows the completion of necessary repairs and successful bacteriological testing, which confirmed that the water is now safe for consumption.

The department expressed gratitude to the community for their patience throughout the resolution process.

Previously, on Sept. 26, a precautionary boil water advisory was issued due to a waterline break. Residents were advised to boil all water intended for food preparation, drinking, ice making and teeth brushing until further notice. Authorities recommended bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one minute to ensure safety. Water authorities emphasized that water could still be used for bathing and washing without boiling.

For further inquiries, residents can contact the Washington County Department of Water Quality office at 240-313-2600.
