Letterkenny Army Depot to host Oktoberfest

CHAMBERSBURG – Letterkenny Army Depot will host its inaugural Oktoberfest on Sept. 28 at the historic James Finley House, welcoming all members of the workforce, their families and the public. The festivities will kick off at 11 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m., promising a day filled with food, entertainment and community engagement.

Event Highlights:

  • Volksmarch, The day will begin with a noncompetitive 5K or 10K volksmarch at 11 a.m., allowing participants to enjoy the scenic surroundings while promoting health and fitness.
  • Opening ceremony, An official opening ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m., marking the start of the main festivities.
  • Food and drink vendors, Attendees can indulge in a variety of culinary delights from local vendors, featuring traditional German dishes and beverages.
  • Entertainment, The event will feature live German music, dancing performances and opportunities for guests to engage with WWII re-enactors, adding a historical flair to the celebration.
  • Activities for all ages, Families can enjoy games, a rock wall for climbing enthusiasts and self-guided tours of the former commander’s quarters.

Col. Donald Santillo, commander of Letterkenny Army Depot, invites the media and public to partake in this event. Oktoberfest aims not only to celebrate German culture but also to strengthen community ties by providing a platform for local businesses and organizations to showcase their offerings.
