CASCADE, Md. – This season’s popular outdoor Jim and Fay Power Concert Series will end on Sunday, Sept. 22, with the Rocky Birely Combo performing from 2-5 p.m. at the beloved Pen Mar Park.
This group plays a large selection of ballroom classics from the ’30s to the ’80s, including Latin, waltz, polka and ballad numbers. The concert is free, and the park is a wonderful venue to dance, picnic or soak up sun, all while relishing unique music from bygone days.
Pen Mar Park is a treasured local landmark, a place for creating and reliving mountaintop memories. The 2024 concert series, hosted by the park from May to September, celebrates the musical past and present with talented acts that perform live each summer Sunday.
Last week, the Generations Big Band, a musical ensemble based in Biglerville, entertained a large crowd with songs culled from several generations. Modern-day couples packed the dance floor, moved by the mood this Big Band’s music created. Their well-crafted tunes brought back fond recollections from Pen Mar Park’s glory days. Thousands once flocked to the park on long-ago summer weekends to hear live music, escape the lowland heat and take in panoramic valley vistas, all enjoyed from an elevated perch in the scenic Appalachian foothills.
Pen Mar Park is located at 14600 Pen Mar-High Rock Rd. The park is managed by Washington County, and more concert information is available by calling 240-313-2700, or by visiting the series website: washingtoncountyarts.com/powers-music-series.
