WAYNESBORO – The Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Carnival is in full swing this week. The free, family-friendly event is the third for the department in recent years.

Fire Chief Chris Corle explained the carnival will run each evening from 6-10 p.m. and will include rides, games, concessions, 50/50 and other small games of chance. The highlight of each evening will be a live concert. The bands include Johnny Seaton on Wednesday, Jennalyn Yon on Thursday, Steve Riddle on Friday and The Doug Lester Band headlining Saturday. Derek Reed played Tuesday evening. Corle said the bands were booked through Pryor & Dove Productions.

Friday will see helicopter rides starting at 4 p.m. and on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The various small games of chance offer participants the opportunity to win prizes including a RTIC Cooler package donated by McCleaf Bus Lines, a bus trip to New York City in December donated by Travel with A and cash prizes for rip ticket games.

Volunteer members of the organization are staffing the grill all week. The Mountain Burger is a delicacy of the department. “We appreciate the partnerships we have with the Waynesboro Stallions and Vigilant Fire Department in Emmitsburg who allowed us to use their food trailers for the week,” Corle noted.

The proceeds from the carnival will assist the department with general operations including maintenance of apparatus and purchase of equipment. Two major expenses this carnival will help offset, though will not fully cover, include nearly $15,000 to properly outfit each firefighter and purchase of a new ambulance.

Corle added that he would love to see the entire community join the department for some fun and lasting memories while supporting Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue.
