WAYNESBORO – More than 250 people lined up at the Wayne Heights Mall, waiting to be the first customers in the new ALDI store at 1517 E. Main St.  in Waynesboro Aug. 29. A soft opening of the 20,499 square foot store was held Aug. 28.

The first 100 customers received a Golden Ticket that could be worth up to $100, as well as a free eco-friendly bag filled with ALDI items and a free ALDI shopping tote.

Breanna McKay of Chambersburg was the first person in line at 5:30 a.m. She said she was looking forward to perusing an aisle in the center of the store where ALDI stocks special weekly finds, many times not typical grocery items. That so-called “aisle of shame” at the store is popular in all ALDI locations. “We have a Facebook group for it. It’s where the ALDI finds are, and it changes every week,” she added.

District manager Blake Martin said ALDI offers customers “high quality products at the lowest prices,” prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, the store will close at 6 p.m.
