Senior wellness day at Waynesboro YMCA

WAYNBESORO – The Waynesboro Area YMCA is set to host its annual Senior Wellness Day from 8-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4. This event, which is free of charge, aims to promote health and wellness among seniors in the community, offering a variety of activities and presentations designed to engage and inform participants.

The event will kick off at 8 a.m. with vendors set up in the gym, providing resources and information tailored to senior health and wellness. The schedule includes several presentations and fitness classes throughout the morning:

  • 8:30 a.m.: James Shoe will present on topics relevant to senior health.
  • 8:30 – 9:25 a.m.: A Step and Groove fitness session will encourage participants to stay active.
  • 9 a.m.: R.N. Martha Swope will deliver a presentation focused on health management for seniors.
  • 9:30 a.m.: Dr. Stephen Bui will provide insights into maintaining health as one ages.
  • Concurrently, the Silver Sneakers Classic class will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m., offering a gentle workout option.
  • 10 a.m.: Albright LIFE (Living Independence for the Elderly) will offer information on its services, which are aimed at helping seniors meet their health care needs in the community. It is a Medicare/Medicaid-supported program.
  • 10:20 – 10:50 a.m.: A Silver Sneakers yoga class will conclude the morning’s activities.

Participants are encouraged to wear sneakers to fully engage in the movement-oriented sessions.
