Discover history at Antietam Battlefield. Antietam National Battlefield, located at 5831 Dunker Church Road, Sharpsburg, Md., will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Marine Corps Maneuvers on Friday, Aug. 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1. This event commemorates a moment in time when more than 3,000 Marines marched from Quantico, Va., to participate in 11 days of training and public events on the historic battlefield. The celebration will feature displays of historic Marine Corps uniforms and equipment from that period, presented by the Marine Corps Historical Company and the National Museum of the United States Navy. A highlight of the event will be a commemorative ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, featuring a brass quintet from “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band and talks by notable historians. This commemoration provides an opportunity for visitors to engage with an important chapter of American military history.
