HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The annual Augustoberfest celebration brought a taste of Germany to Washington County last weekend, drawing crowds with authentic cuisine, lively music and family-friendly activities.

The two-day event, held at the Washington County Agricultural Center in Boonsboro, paid tribute to the area’s rich German heritage while raising funds for local causes. Organized by the Augustoberfest Charitable Foundation, the festival aimed to support scholarships for the Hagerstown-Wesel Sister City exchange program and provide endowments for various non-profits in Washington County.

Visitors enjoyed a wide array of German delicacies and beer, accompanied by the sounds of traditional German bands. The festival’s commitment to authenticity set it apart from other German-themed events in the region.

Families with children found plenty of entertainment at the free kids’ area, which offered numerous activities for younger attendees. The organizers ensured the event catered to all age groups, making it a community-wide celebration.

Local business leaders, serving as volunteers on the Foundation’s board, played a crucial role in orchestrating the festivities. Their efforts contributed to the event’s success and its positive impact on the community.

The Augustoberfest not only provided a weekend of cultural immersion and entertainment but also strengthened the bonds between Hagerstown and its German sister city, Wesel.
