CHAMBERSBURG — Habitat for Humanity, which so far has built 56 homes in Franklin County, will partner again with St. John’s United Church of Christ for a late October used book sale, according to Habitat Director Mark Story. The sale, which benefits Habitat projects, is sponsored by BCM Payroll Services.

Donations of books and other items are sought from Sept. 3 to Oct. 12, with four ways to drop off items. The groups are seeking new and used books on all subjects, including paperbacks, as well as artwork, CDs, DVDs, sheet music, audio books on CD, puzzles. and board games.

Habitat respectfully declines textbooks, encyclopedias, books that are musty, cassette tapes and VHS videos, Story said.

The four ways to drop off donations include:

–At any of the Patriot Federal Credit Union lobby locations in Franklin County.

— At St. John’s United Church of Christ, Monday-Friday 9-3. The church is located at 1811 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg.

— At the Habitat ReStore donation center, 1662 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg, Wednesday-Saturday normal store hours.

–In bulk by contacting Harold Collier at [email protected] or 717-263-8593. Large donations should be boxed.

All donations need to be received by Oct. 12. The sale will take place at St. John’s UCC over three days on Friday, Oct. 25, 2-8pm; Saturday, Oct. 26, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 26, noon-4 p.m.

Story noted this is a volunteer-led initiative, and all proceeds will be used to help build the next Habitat house in Franklin County.

“Following the success of our previous sales we are pleased to provide this opportunity to the community again,” Story continued. “We especially thank the leadership at St. John’s Church for the sale space, BCM Payroll Services for their generous sponsorship and Patriot Federal Credit Union for opening their lobbies for donations to help make the sale possible.”

Habitat of Franklin County was formed in 1994 and volunteers in partnership with local families have built the 56 homes, Story noted. This helps to achieve Habitat’s vision of “A world where everyone has a decent place to live,” Story said.
