MERCERSBURG — The Star Theatre in Mercersburg is set to host a production of “Church Basement Ladies,” a musical comedy that celebrates the women who manage the church basement kitchen. The performance will be present four times, starting on Saturday, Sept.14, and running through Sunday, Sept. 22.

Tickets, at $28 and $26 (for seniors), are already sold out for two of the performances.

“Church Basement Ladies” is inspired by the best-selling book “Growing Up Lutheran” and features a cast of five distinct characters navigating the challenges of a rural Minnesota church in 1965. The story unfolds as these women prepare for significant events, including a record-breaking Christmas dinner, a heartfelt funeral, a unique Hawaiian Easter fundraiser and a sweltering July wedding. Throughout these experiences, they not only tackle culinary challenges but also maintain the pastor’s focus, showcasing their resilience and camaraderie.

The musical highlights the dynamics between the elderly matriarch of the kitchen and a young bride-to-be, illustrating their growth and the traditions they uphold. Audiences can expect a blend of humor and heartfelt moments as they witness the year unfold beneath the church’s roof, capturing the essence of community and faith.Tickets for this limited engagement are available at startheatrepa.com or by calling 717-220-3318, with group discounts offered. The performances with tickets remaining include Sunday, Sept. 15, at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.
