YORK- Inspiring the health and wellness of the communities it serves, WellSpan Health is proud to donate a more than 5-acre plot of land located along Indian Rock Dam Road to Spring Garden Township in York County. The land will be used to construct a fire station, public park and recreation facilities, beautifying this part of the township and improving access to emergency services in the area.
“We are excited to partner with the township to provide options for this land. We are proud of our commitment to our communities and we know that to be a good partner our work extends far beyond providing top-notch doctors, nurses and facilities,” said Alyssa Moyer, vice president of WellSpan Health and president of WellSpan York Hospital. “This donation will not only improve emergency services response times locally, but it will also help to expand a community gathering place that is a focus of our mission at WellSpan: promoting lifelong wellness.”
“The Spring Garden Township Board of Commissioners is thankful to WellSpan for this generous donation and is excited to begin planning for the construction of a new fire station to replace the Grantley Fire Station,” said Daniel Rooney, president of the Spring Garden Township Board of Commissioners.
“This donation of land is the result of a long process of searching to find sufficient space for a fire station in the western side of Spring Garden Township. A new station is desperately needed to replace the existing Grantley Fire Station and we are hopeful that this acquisition of land, a process which started more than six years ago, continues to gain momentum and results in a modern fire station that properly accommodates our staff, now and well into the future. Our staff is extremely grateful to our township commissioners and WellSpan for coming together on this project to help us continue providing excellent service and care to our township residents,” said Daniel Hoff, Fire Chief of York Area United Fire and Rescue.
The property is adjacent to land owned and used by WellSpan as office space for operations. It also serves as the site of an alternative helipad for nearby WellSpan York Hospital. That helipad will continue to operate as the alternative site for emergency air transport if weather or other issues impact the use of the WellSpan WellFlight helipad at the hospital.
