WAYNESBORO — The Wayne Band, a community ensemble in Waynesboro, is set to commemorate its 125th anniversary with a special concert on August 4, at 3 p.m. in the Hess Room of Quincy Village.
The performance will showcase a diverse repertoire spanning the band’s century-and-a-quarter history, featuring standard band literature from various decades. Alongside the musical program, attendees can explore a display of historical artifacts, including photographs, uniforms and instruments that chronicle the band’s evolution since its inception in 1899.
The Wayne Band has been a cultural cornerstone in Waynesboro, overcoming challenges and adapting to changing times. In the 1950s, under the leadership of Asher Edelman, the band persevered through lean years when membership dwindled to only a dozen musicians. Today, the band continues to uphold its traditions.
The Wayne Band’s 125th-anniversary concert will take place at 6596 Orphanage Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268. For more information, contact Daniel Deatrich at 717-830-9476.
