HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Washington County Arts Council is hosting a thought-provoking exhibition titled “Mind Your Mental: An Exploration of Mental Health Through Art” from July 11 to August 6, 2024, at their galleries in downtown Hagerstown.

The exhibition aims to shed light on mental health issues through artistic expression, featuring works by local artists that focus on how art aids them in their personal mental health journeys. An opening reception was held on Thursday, July 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., allowing visitors to engage with the artwork and potentially meet the artists.

The galleries, located at 34 S. Potomac St., Suite 100, in Hagerstown, will be open to the public throughout the exhibition’s run. A special “Meet the Artist” event is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., offering attendees a unique opportunity to interact with the creators behind the works.

Chris Brewer, the event contact, encourages community participation in this exploration of mental health through artistic mediums. The Washington County Arts Council, established in 1968, has a long-standing mission to enrich the cultural, social, and economic life of the community through nurturing the arts. This exhibition aligns with their goal of providing diverse programming and developing connections between artists and the community.

Funding for the Washington County Arts Council is provided by grants from the Maryland State Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington County Government, and various businesses and individuals. Visitors are advised to use the A&E Parking Deck located at 25 Renaissance Way for convenient access to the exhibition.
