CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Commissioners and the Franklin County Office of Veterans Affairs are pleased to announce the 2024 recipients of the We Salute You Scholarship. Five area high school graduates will each receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship to continue their education after graduation.
The We Salute You Scholarship program provides financial support to area veterans’ dependents. Eligible applicants are high school seniors residing in Franklin County who have been accepted into an accredited higher learning institution and who are in need of financial assistance.
Students receiving scholarships this year are:
- Katelyn Grace, a graduate of Chambersburg Career Magnet School, who will be studying pediatric medicine at Penn State University;
- Lillian Holthaus, a graduate of Fannett-Metal High School, who will be studying business management at Indiana University of Pennsylvania;
- Summer Jones, a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, who will be studying criminal justice and psychology at Alabama State University;
- Morgan McMaster, a graduate of Cumberland Valley Christian School, who will be studying veterinary science at Wilson College; and
- Quintin Turner, a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, who will be studying secondary education at Shippensburg University
“We are honored to present these scholarships to this group of students,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “Their loved ones served our country, and awarding these scholarships is the least we can do to say ‘thank you’ on behalf of all Franklin County residents.”
To be eligible for the We Salute You Scholarship, applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and participate in both extracurricular and community service activities. Students must also complete the scholarship application and submit three letters of reference, including one from their high school guidance counselor, along with other documentation as noted by the application instructions.
A portion of funds for the scholarship comes from donations to the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Outreach Fund. Donations to the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Outreach Fund can be made by dropping off or mailing a check, made payable to Franklin County Veterans Affairs, Attn: Outreach Fund, to the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Office at 425 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
