Oscar-Winning Scores Take Center Stage at Shippensburg’s Luhrs Center

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University will host “A Night at the Oscars” on Thursday, July 18, at 7 p.m., featuring the Shippensburg Festival Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Lawrence Loh.

The concert will showcase symphonic works from Academy Award-winning films, spanning beloved classics to modern epics. Audiences can expect to hear music from “Ben Hur,” “Gone with the Wind,” “West Side Story,” “Out of Africa,” “Star Wars,” “Interstellar,” and “Lord of the Rings,” among others.

Meredith Lustig, an accomplished vocalist with experience in opera, musical theater, and television, will be the featured performer. Lustig’s diverse career includes roles in productions such as “Kiss Me Kate,” “Oklahoma,” and “The Sound of Music”.

The Shippensburg Festival Symphony Orchestra, celebrating over 50 years of performances, brings together professional musicians from orchestras across New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Lawrence Loh, the conductor for this event, brings a wealth of experience, having previously conducted for the Pittsburgh Symphony, Dallas Symphony, and Colorado Symphony. He currently serves as the music director for both the Syracuse Symphony and Waco Symphony.

Tickets for “A Night at the Oscars” are priced at $39, $29, $25, and $15. The event is part of the Shippensburg Festival Celebration Series, which also includes a performance of “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial In Concert” on July 20. The Luhrs Center, known for its diverse programming, continues to provide cultural enrichment to the Cumberland Valley area through its Circle of Friends membership program, which supports arts education and outreach.
