Buttonwood Nature Center, home of The Institute is hosting a new 5-day summer camp on Monday to Friday, July 29–Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Textile Arts Camp at Pine Hill Recreation Area near Waynesboro, Pa. is open to kids completing grades grade 3 through age 17.

Buttonwood educator Beth Skroban leads the camp. She is a master weaver and textiles expert who raises sheep and alpaca on her family’s Four Sons Farm.

During the 5-day camp, students will choose what color to dye a skein of yarn for a weaving project, and learn to dye their yarn. They will each make a unique potholder to take home, and also learn about methods of felting wool.

“Students will learn the ‘wet felting’ technique and use it to create a useful felted container, and will use ‘needle felting’ to create a name tag or decorative pin,” Skroban said.

Over two or three days, and with guidance from Skroban, students will work on their major weaving project. Using individual table looms, students will create a beautiful infinity scarf or cowl with their own dyed yarn.

No experience is necessary. All materials are included in the camp fee, and each student will take home their completed projects. Students should pack a lunch and beverage.

An experienced educator, Skroban holds a degree in history andhas taught a wide variety of programs to students of all ages. She also taught ballet for 25 years and teaches knitting and weaving in her home studio.

Registration for the camp is required by July 22, and includes all five sessions. Please register early to ensure your spot. The camp is subject to minimum enrollment and will be cancelled if we fail to meet the minimum. Enrollment limited to six. Camp fee: $225 for members of Buttonwood Nature Center/The Institute, and $230 general public. Register online at  www.buttonwoodnaturecenter.org.
