HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania has significantly expanded its Property Tax/Rent Rebate program and extended the application deadline for 2023 rebates to December 31, 2024, state officials announced.

The expansion, signed into law by Governor Josh Shapiro last year, increases the income eligibility limit to $45,000 for both homeowners and renters. This change is expected to make nearly 175,000 additional Pennsylvanians eligible for the program.

“This is a big deal for our seniors – and it’s proof that we can work together in a bipartisan manner to get stuff done,” Shapiro said.

The maximum rebate has also been increased from $650 to $1,000. The program is open to residents aged 65 and older, widows and widowers 50 and older, and people with disabilities 18 and older.

Starting July 1, 2024, the Department of Revenue will distribute over 442,000 rebates totaling $266 million for property taxes and rent paid in 2023. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s initial distribution of 283,468 rebates totaling nearly $132 million.

Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne noted a surge in applications, with approximately 100,000 more received compared to the same time last year. This includes nearly 89,000 first-time filers.

Applicants can submit their forms online at mypath.pa.gov. Officials emphasize that assistance with applications is available free of charge through various state offices
