Washington Township Implements Open Burning Ban and Road Closure

WAYNESBORO- The Washington Township Supervisors have announced a ban on all open burning in Washington Township, Franklin County, effective at noon on Tuesday, June 25. This decision, in accordance with Chapter 128 of the Township Code, aims to enhance public safety and environmental protection.

The ban prohibits any form of open burning, including brush burning, burn barrels, and fireplaces. Only gas grills and charcoal fires are permitted during this period. The Washington Township Fire Company will supervise any necessary exceptions within 150 feet of wooded areas or buildings.

Township Manager Vernon Ashway emphasized the importance of adhering to the ban to prevent potential fire hazards and ensure community safety. Residents are urged to comply with the regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to the township’s efforts in maintaining a safe environment.

In addition to the burning ban, the Washington Township Police Department has issued a community announcement regarding a temporary road closure. On Wednesday, June 26, Mentzer Gap Road will be closed to through traffic between Fish & Game Road and Polidor Road from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to road construction. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and expect delays during this period.
