HARRISBURG- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to virtual/online plans display regarding the Route 3002 (Mason Dixon Road) bridge replacement project. The purpose of this project is to address structural deficiencies of the bridge and provide continued safe and efficient crossing of Route 3002 over Rock Creek in Cumberland and Mount Joy townships, Adams County.
The proposed project consists of replacing the bridge on the existing alignment. The existing bridge is a 194-foot-long, four-span, steel I-girder bridge with a curb-to-curb width of 22 feet. The replacement structure will be a two-span precast prestressed concrete PA Bulb Tee beam bridge. The bridge will have a 28-foot curb to curb width accommodating two 10-foot lanes and 4-foot shoulders. The existing horizontal and vertical alignments will be maintained with minimal changes.
The proposed roadway will provide superelevation for the horizontal alignment in each approach. Approximately 250 feet of roadway will be reconstructed along each approach to the bridge. Approximately 35 feet of driveway adjustment is proposed to meet Route 3002 roadway elevations. Guide rail will be updated in all quadrants. Access to the Mary Penn Bed and Breakfast will be maintained throughout the project.
Traffic on Route 3002 is anticipated to be detoured during construction. The proposed detour route is approximately 6.75-miles (approximately 10 minutes) long. The duration of the detour is expected to be approximately 12 months. Pedestrians will not be directly accommodated across the bridge during the construction phase.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2026 and be completed in the fall of the same year at an estimated construction cost of $6.5 million.
