A Cappella 2023 Finalists

CHAMBERSBURG- The historic Capitol Theatre in downtown Chambersburg will host the first round of the 10th annual A Cappella & Unplugged competition on June 29, at 7 p.m. The event, organized by the Franklin County Visitors Bureau, is free and open to the public.

Eleven musical acts will compete in this preliminary round, showcasing their talents in a cappella or unplugged performances. A panel of judges will select six acts to advance to the final round, while audience members will vote for a People’s Choice winner, who will receive a $100 prize.

Performers are limited to two songs within a 10-minute set time. The competition guidelines require family-friendly content and prohibit the use of amplification, microphones, or electronics. Instruments must be portable, excluding full drum kits, pianos, or wheeled instruments.

The final round of A Cappella & Unplugged is scheduled for July 20, at the Franklin County Courthouse Steps. Finalists will compete for the grand prize of $500, with the winner determined by audience vote. The event will precede the annual 1864 Ransoming, Burning, and Rebirth of Chambersburg reenactment.

This competition is part of the larger ChambersFest 2024, a week-long community celebration from July 13 to 20. The festival includes various events such as Restaurant Week, Old Market Day, and the Burning of Chambersburg reenactment.

Evan Crider, the A Cappella Unplugged MC, encourages community participation, stating, “Audience members are needed as votes determine the grand prize winner of the competition!” For more information or to register for the event, interested parties can contact the Franklin County Visitors Bureau.
