The second-place team in Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League’s Division 2 was hoping and praying that the U11 United — a boys team competing for the Chambersburg-based Union Soccer Club — would falter in their final league match of the season.
A loss from the USC United would have left the team with a 6-1 record, and just a share of the division crown. But the United loss never materialized: They pitched a 3-0 shutout over FC Ballyhoo White in their spring finale.
A division promotion for the fall season is likely in order for the United, who played to a 7-0 record this spring, outscoring opponents 32-9 in the process.
Waynesboro Youth Soccer Association concluded its campaign in the United Recreational Soccer League by sending two of its teams to the end-of-season URSL Tournament. The WYSA Warriors went 0-2-1, while the Maidens posted a 1-1-1 record.
