Whether they were defending their backyard turf or performing on the road, sprint car drivers from the Local.News area put on quite the show last weekend.
We counted at least six drivers with local ties who drove to Victory Lane, with four of those drivers taking wins at Path Valley Speedway in Spring Run, which hosted a two-day “Rumble in the Valley” racing program on Friday and Saturday.
The first night of Rumble in the Valley saw Fayetteville’s Cameron Defenderfer drive to the win in the Thunder Cars feature, while Chambersburg’s Craig Myers finished on top of the 270 Sprints race. Defenderfer earned victory over a field that included Chambersburg’s Kevin Bard (5th) and Fayetteville’s Roger Traxler (8th), while Myers secured his win over a group of drivers that included Greencastle’s Bradyn Kuhn (4th) and Cory Myers (8th). Also on Friday, Chambersburg’s Malachi Doyle drove to a third-place finish in the Strictly Stocks race.
Two more area winners were produced on Night 2 of the Rumble in the Valley: Hagerstown’s Kameron Morral (600 Sprints) and Fayetteville’s Cory Myers (270 Sprints). Other top finishers from Saturday include Chambersburg’s Devin Friese (2nd in East Coast Legends Series), Kevin Bard (3rd in Thunder Cars), and Craig Myers (3rd in 270 Sprints), Fayetteville’s Mike Kelley (4th in East Coast Legends Series makeup race)
There were 29 cars in a loaded Late Model Sportsman field at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, but none reached the finish line before DJ Myers. The Greencastle driver surged to victory over a group of drivers that included Greencastle’s Cody Kershner (7th) and Hagerstown’s Wesley Bonebrake (12th). The Pure Stocks feature saw Keith Reed, of Hagerstown, land in fourth place.
While things were looking great on the home front, Scott Palmer and Lance Dewease made sure Franklin County was well-represented on the road. Greencastle’s Palmer earned a Late Models win at BAPS Motor Speedway in Abbottstown, while Sprint Car Hall of Famer Dewease, of Fayetteville, earned a runner-up finish at Port Royal Speedway.
Below is a speedway-by-speedway, race-by-race look at how area drivers performed last weekend:
