WAYNESBORO- Step back in time this weekend at the Monterey Pass Battlefield Park and Museum’s Living History Weekend event. Packed with a full schedule of family-friendly activities, this event promises to transport visitors to the era of the American Civil War.
Reenactments and Demonstrations
The highlight of the weekend will be the battle reenactments, scheduled for 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, and 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14t. Visitors will witness Union cavalry units, including the 1st WV Cavalry and the 1st, 5th, 6th, and 7th Michigan Cavalry, face off against Confederate units such as the 1st MD Cavalry, the 5th AL Infantry, and the 5th, 12th, 20th, and 23rd North Carolina Infantry. In addition to the reenactments, the event will feature a variety of other living history demonstrations. Visitors can observe a blacksmith at work from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, and attend unit reviews from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The event will also host featured speakers and authors. Local author Joel Moore, known for his “Novels of Boys in History,” will be on-site to discuss his work and sign copies of his latest book.

The Living History Weekend at Monterey Pass Battlefield Park and Museum is a family-friendly event, with horse-drawn wagon rides available for visitors to enjoy the scenic surroundings.
