As it stands currently, there is not a varsity girls wrestling team at Chambersburg.
But with the talent coming up from the junior high level, the Trojans have at least four reasons to assemble a program sooner rather than later.
The Local.News area featured 18 wrestlers at last weekend’s PJW Junior High State Championships, held at First Summit Arena at The Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown. But it was four grapplers, all girls from Chambersburg, who stole the show.
Reagan Evans led the charge for the Trojans, placing second in the state at 127 pounds. Evans was joined on the awards stand by Aulana Stanton (3rd at 167), Olivia Kearns (3rd at 98), and Piper Jones (5th at 137).
Another state tournament — the Keystone State Championships — recently held its Southeast Qualifier at Spooky Nook, with seven area youth wrestlers punching their tickets to the big tourney on March 15-17 at Santander Arena in Reading. Waynesboro’s Beltz siblings, Ace and Aven, were both champions.
The Nittany Lion Wrestling Tournament in State College featured a handful of area wrestlers looking to sharpen their skills, including Chambersburg’s Samuel Stoner, who was the heavyweight champion.
