LITITZ – UPMC Lititz recognized nine-year-old Aubrie Lawson on Wednesday for her brave efforts of calling 911 for her father, Jeremy, who suffered respiratory arrest before Christmas. The UPMC Lititz staff, first responders, 911 dispatcher and Aubrie’s family celebrated her with a “superhero” plaque, cake and balloons.

Director of the Emergency Department at UPMC Lititz Cindy Zimmerman told Aubrie’s family how special she is for her actions. “There aren’t many kids that will know how to call 911, stay calm and know what to do,” Zimmerman shared.

“It’s something that kids should learn,” Zimmerman said. “Whether it’s at school or whether it’s at home.”

Not only was Aubrie able to describe what was happening to the 911 dispatcher, but she put away the family dog and helped emergency responders to her father. Because of her swift action, Jeremy made a full recovery and made it home just in time for Christmas.
