YORK – WellSpan Health’s expansive system of laboratories serving patients across South Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland has been recognized for its high quality and safety standards. The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to WellSpan based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs. WellSpan is just one of six system of labs to earn this accreditation across all of Pennsylvania and Maryland.
“To be a trusted partner for our patients, we know that they need to be confident they are safe in our care. That trust is built on the high quality and high reliability that comes with this accreditation for our labs and the experts that process the thousands of patient lab needs each day,” said Mike Ridinger, vice president for service line operations, diagnostic, oncology & precision medicine, WellSpan Health.
The accreditation honors the entire system of laboratories across WellSpan for the integrated services offered, and the standardization across each laboratory that ensures best practices that ultimately leads to an exceptional patient experience. There are only approximately 200 such laboratory systems nationwide that have achieved this CAP accreditation.
The CAP inspection teams are practicing laboratory professionals who understand the importance of quality workflows and analyze system processes that help to mitigate risks. They are recognized as the global leaders in improving the quality of services using established performance standards.
There are eight laboratories across the health system as well as 39 WellSpan Lab Services locations for patients. For more information about WellSpan’s network, visit WellSpan.org/Labs.
