CHAMBERSBURG- The Franklin County Area Agency on Aging will host “Healthy Steps For Older Adults,” a fall prevention program developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, on Wednesday, Dec. 13 and 20, at the Tuscarora Senior Activity Center. The program will teach participants how to take steps to prevent falls, which is a leading cause of injury and death among older adults. The workshop will also include a take-home guide with resources for participants.

This event is free, but registration is required by calling (717) 328-4474.

Falls are a serious problem for older adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four older adults falls each year, and one in five falls results in a serious injury, such as a broken bone or head injury.

The Healthy Steps For Older Adults program can help older adults reduce their risk of falling by teaching them about:

  • The risk factors for falls
  • How to make their homes safer
  • How to exercise to improve their balance and strength

The program also provides participants with information about resources that can help them stay safe and healthy.

If you are an older adult or know someone who is, please encourage them to attend the Healthy Steps For Older Adults program. It is a valuable resource that can help to prevent falls and keep older adults safe and healthy.
