WAYNESBOROFour WellSpan Health hospitals have received “A” safety grades for fall 2023 from The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers widely acknowledged as the toughest standard-setter for health care safety and quality.

WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, and WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital all received the “A” safety grades.

“We’re honored to be recognized by Leapfrog because at WellSpan Health we believe that safety and quality are the foundation of our vision to be a trusted partner to our patients,” said Dr. Michael Seim, senior vice president and chief quality officer at WellSpan Health. “Our relentless focus on this important work has produced real results with improved outcomes for our patients which ensures they can be confident they are safe in our care.”

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country twice a year based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

WellSpan’s remaining eligible acute care hospitals, WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital and WellSpan York Hospital, earned a “B” grade for fall 2023.
