Lieutenant Wayne is AHS Pet of the Week!
This low-riding, chunky boy came to us August 3rd, 2022 and has spent a little over a year in our care with hardly any interest! Wayne came to us as a stray after he was found abandoned at the dog park, and is still on the look-out for his forever home.
Lieutenant Wayne is a dog-walker favorite and with the help of staff and volunteers, has begun walking much nicer on leash with the aid of a harness. He loves to be outside either in the yard or out on his walks. He is not a big fan of small critters or cats and has also been working on ignoring them when he is out and about!
Do not let this five-year-old pup’s age fool you, Wayne still has plenty of pep to his step! He loves to spend time with every person he has met and is an even bigger fan of trying to sit in laps for a good butt scratch! While he is a bigger fan of getting attention and pets, Wayne will occasionally find a squeaky toy or stuffed animal he really likes and have a blast tossing it around!
Wayne will need to go to a home without cats and possibly other dogs. He does better with female dogs but has been selective with what other dog friends he makes. We have learned that Wayne will resource guard food and treats from other dogs and if there is another dog in the home, will have to be fed separately to avoid any possibilities of fights. He has done wonderfully with children of all ages, and would not mind having a young human companion in the home!
As he is one of our longer term residents, staff and volunteers alike would love for this big boy to find a home where he can relax his days away in. If you think you could be a good fit for this hefty pup, stop by and visit with him today!
