WAYNESBORO— Over 75 dogs took to the pool Saturday for Dog Swim Day at the Northside Pool. The event benefits the Northside Dog Park.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes enjoyed the opportunity to swim and play in the pool. There were golden retrievers, Labradors, poodles, bulldogs, and even a few smaller breeds like Chihuahuas and terriers.

The Antietam Humane Society was also at the pool with information about adoptable pets and accepting donations for the shelter.

The next Dog Swim Day is scheduled for September 2024.

Tips for Dog Swimming

If you’re planning on taking your dog swimming, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • Make sure your dog is old enough to swim. Most puppies can start swimming at around 10 weeks old.
  • Start slowly and gradually introduce your dog to the water.
  • Be sure to supervise your dog at all times while they are swimming.
  • Avoid swimming in areas with strong currents or waves.
  • Check the water temperature before you go swimming. It should be at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Bring a towel to dry your dog off after swimming.

Dog swimming can be a great way for your dog to cool off and have fun. Just be sure to take precautions to keep them safe.
