WAYNESBORO – Waynesboro’s varsity golf team needed a win.

And they got it at Great Cove Golf Course in McConnellsburg.

Waynesboro’s top four golfers – Kellan Smith, Tyler Fortney, Stone Taylor and Andrew Soffe – combined to finish with a score of 327. Northern, who has beaten Waynesboro twice this season and entered Tuesday’s Mid-Penn Colonial Division match with a one-match lead in the standings, finished eight strokes behind, finishing with 335.

The result of Waynesboro’s second win over Northern puts both teams at 22-2.

Smith finished in a tie for third overall in the match with a 79. Fortney, a regular top finisher among Colonial Division golfers, tied for fourth overall with James Buchanan’s Abram Stock. Both carded scores of 80.

Taylor finished with 83, while Soffe shot 85.

Northern’s Kyle Miller was medalist with a 78.

The next league match is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Eagles Crossing Golf Club.
