Used book sale seeks donations to benefit Habitat for Humanity

CHAMBERSBURG – Habitat For Humanity and St. John’s United Church of Christ have partnered together again to host a used book sale to benefit Habitat’s housing ministry in Franklin County. The sale is sponsored by Patriot Federal Credit Union. Online details can be found at: www.sjucc1811.org/book-sale. From Sept 5-Oct 7 materials can be donated four ways: 

  1. At any of the Patriot Federal Credit Union lobby locations in Franklin County.
  2. At St. John’s UCC, Monday-Friday 9-3, located at 1811 Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg or

on two special drive-up and drop-off days Sept 30 & Oct 7 from 9-3.

3. At the Habitat ReStore donation center, Wednesday-Saturday, located at 1662 Lincoln Way

East in Chambersburg. 

4. In bulk by contacting Harold Collier at [email protected] or 717-263-8593. Large

  donations should be boxed. 

We welcome new and used books on all subjects, including paperbacks. We also welcome artwork, CDs, DVDs, sheet music, audio books (on CD), puzzles, and board games. We respectfully decline textbooks, encyclopedias, books that are musty, cassette tapes and VHS videos (except Disney). The donation cutoff date is October 7, 2023. 

The sale will take place at St. John’s UCC over three days on Oct 27 (Fri) from 4-9pm, Oct 28 (Sat) from 9am-6pm and Oct 29 (Sun) from 12-4pm. This is a volunteer led initiative and all proceeds will be used to help build the next Habitat house in Franklin County. Mark Story, Habitat Community Engagement Director says, “Following the success of our sale in 2022 we are pleased to provide this opportunity to the community again. We especially thank the leadership at St. John’s Church for the sale space and Patriot Federal Credit Union for their generous sponsorship and for opening their lobbies for donations to help make the sale possible.” 

About Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County: HFHFC was formed in 1994 and volunteers have constructed 54 homes in partnership with local families in Franklin County. This helps to achieve Habitat’s vision of “A world where everyone has a decent place to live.” and ensures there is adequate affordable housing stock in Franklin County for everyone to live, work, worship, and play.
