WAYNESBORO- The 7th annual Waynesboro Wizarding Weekend is promising a weekend filled with magic, excitement, and fun for all ages. Wizarding Weekend will take place on Friday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 5, this enchanting event will be held in downtown Waynesboro.
Here’s a rundown of what you can expect during this spellbinding weekend:
Movies at The Waynesboro Theatre
The Waynesboro Theatre, located at 75 W. Main St., will be screening several Harry Potter movies, including the beloved classic “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” The movie screenings will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 3. For the full lineup and to purchase tickets, visit waynesborotheatre.org.
Books Galore
If you’re a bookworm looking to stock up on magical reads, head to The Wee Scott Book Shoppe at 4 E. Main St. They will have the Headmaster’s Office open and a wide selection of books to help you start the school year off on the right foot. Additionally, the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library at 45 E. Main St. will be hosting character storytime events and rock painting classes. Don’t miss the chance to explore the halls of this great library.
Treasure Hunts and Magical Treats
Get ready for some exciting treasure hunts at the 1884 Market House on Schier’s Way. Taking place on Friday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 5, these hunts will challenge your seeking skills, with prizes for the best treasure hunters. And if you’re in need of magical supplies and treats, don’t miss Borogon Alley, open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring over 20 enchanting places to collect all your magical necessities.
Trivia and Pints
Think you know everything there is to know about the Boy Who Lived and He Who Must Not Be Named? Test your knowledge at the Harry Potter trivia hosted by Rough Edges Brewing at 91 W. Main St. on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 5-7 p.m. Fill your mug with your favorite brew and show off your wizarding expertise. Plus, for those 21 and older, the inaugural Harry Porter Pub Crawl will take place on Friday, Aug 4. 6 to 9 p.m. General tickets are $25 and VIP tickets are $35. Friday Fun and First Friday
Friday, Aug. 4, is not only a part of the Waynesboro Wizarding Weekend but also a First Friday! Prepare for a truly magical experience as Main Street Park welcomes the talented Rebekah Foster, the Bubble Magician River Barry, and offers students the opportunity to create their own magical spell books to take to school in a few weeks.
Magical High Teas and Wand Workshops
Indulge in a magical high tea experience at TranquilaTea Tea Room & Gift Shop located at 117 W. Main St. on both Friday and Saturday. To reserve your spot, call 717-765-8327. And for those aspiring wizards and witches, the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro will be hosting its annual Wand Workshop at 46 W. Main St. Create the perfect wand and dragon egg for a small donation and cast happy spells all day long!
Dress up and Show Off
On Saturday, Aug. 5 at 3 p.m., there will be a costume parade and contest at Main Street Park. The parade will be led by characters from Fantastical Vanity and will go to the square and back to Borogon Alley. The contest is open to the public and participants will be judged in three categories: most creative, most like character, and best in show. There are two age groups: 10 and under and 11 and older. Prizes will be given for first and second place in each age group in all categories. Participants can register at the stage in Borogon Alley immediately after the magic show. All participants will receive some wizarding swag.
Support Local Businesses
Build an owl plate on Friday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. at Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro, great for ages 6 and up.
There will be a kids painting party on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 10:30 am to noon. Art professor Charles will lead the young students (and their parents) in step-by-step instructions to create this magical owl painting that they can take home and hang in their dungeons, or bedrooms. Event is held at 70 W. Main street and tickets are $30. Art Prof. Charles will hold a second session at 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for older children. Adults can participate in a BYO while making their own Wizarding Welcome sign at 3:30 until 5 p.m. Cost is $50.
