HARRISBURG- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) project in on multiple routes in south central Pennsylvania will continue next week with work along southbound Interstate 83 in Dauphin County. The work limits are from the on-ramp from Interstate 81 to the interchange at Union Deposit Road (Exit 48).

Weather permitting, the contractor will begin installing fiber optic cable along southbound I-83. This work will be performed weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM for the next three-to-four weeks. There will be shoulder closures.

This project includes the installation of various ITS devices such as Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) at over 55 unique locations on various routes throughout Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin and York counties.

Most work will be performed off the roadway and traffic impacts will be minor. Any short-term traffic restrictions will be during nighttime hours. 

Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones for their safety as well as for the safety of the road crews.

Kuharchik Construction, Inc. of Exeter, PA, is the contractor on this $6,164,171 project. All work is expected to be completed by June 20, 2025.
