GREENCASTLE–A fundraiser to raise money for the family of a Waynesboro man who drowned last week will be held today at the John Allison Public House.

Michael Brook, 64, was killed Thursday morning, when the boat he was in went over the Dock Street Dam in Harrisburg and capsized. He was found hours later about seven miles downstream near the Harrisburg International Airport, according to the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office.

According to investigators, Brook was fishing with another man when their boat capsized. The man Brook was with was rescued by another boater and taken to shore.

Brook worked at the John Allison Public House in Greencastle for the past 13 years. The restaurant is hosting a fundraiser today, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. to help support Brook’s family. A portion of the day’s total sales will be donated to the family to help with funeral expenses. There will also be donation jars available to accept cash and checks.

“As a restaurant family, we are hurting, but we also ask that you keep Mike’s family in your hearts and prayers,” said a post on the restaurant’s social media. “He leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth “Bea” Hibble of 38 years, a sister, a daughter, two grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He will be forever loved and missed.”

Donations may be made at the restaurant or visit the GoFund Me link.
