Shippensburg shooting kills woman

SHIPPENSBURG–Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an Easter day homicde in Shippensburg.

Officers from the Shippensburg Police Department responded around 8:30 p.m. April 9, to 111 S. Prince St. for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, they discovered Beth Ann Schwartz, 48, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to Chambersburg Hospital and life-flighted to York Hospital for further treatment, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

In addition to Schwartz, police said they encountered Breanna Elizabeth Black, 33, who was intitially identified as the possible shooter and was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

Through an investigation by PSP Troop H Major Case Team, it was learned that Schwartz and Black were known to each other and had engaged in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting, according to PSP.

Black has been charged with one count of criminal homicide and is in Cumberland County Prison pending arraignment.
